Curious to learn more about improvisation and how it can be applied beyond the stage to life, work and play? Then join The Quest, a one-day improvisational journey and get ready for an insight-filled adventure!
The Quest is based on an improvisational exercise initially developed by the legendary improv “guru” Del Close (1934-1999) and adapted by Jeanne Lambin.
Described by participants as, “completely transformational”, The Quest is a mainly solo-exercise, intended to generate insights, The Quest leads you on a journey where you experience taking the improvisational mindset, normally reserved for the stage, out into the everyday world of Zurich. Applying this mindset of presence for an extended period, you can explore what happens as a result of that approach and reflect on what was discovered during the experience.
The Quest can help participants:
- be more present, mindful, and attentive
- become a more engaged listeners
- be more comfortable with uncertainty, and open to new experiences
- recognize patterns and understand the significance of the larger patterns that unfold on the stage, in life, and the world.
How does it work?
The Quest takes place in three parts:
- workshop
- The Quest
- story-sharing
During the workshop, participants are introduced to The Quest, the history behind it and the “improvisational mindset.” Next, through a series of interactive exercises, they will become acquainted with some of the basic the improv skills needed to embark on The Quest, specifically: presence, attention, listening, agreement, support, letting go, storytelling and pattern recognition.
At the end of the workshop, participants are given “prompts” to help guide them on their journey and then they begin their Quest.
The final part of The Quest involves participants coming together and, through casual conversation and storytelling, sharing experiences they had, and insights discovered during that process. The story-sharing is a critical part of the process.
Skill Level
Whether complete newbie or experienced improviser the The Quest is designed to accommodate all levels of experience. Experience helps but is not necessary. What you need to know to embark on your Quest will be covered in the workshop. It is a powerful way to experience the benefits of an improvisational mindset in a safe, non-performative setting.
